BicycleSpace: River Run Ride (A Full Moon Outing)

At first, I must admit that I was a little skeptical of group rides larger than 6-7 people. Do I really want to be riding in a pack of 250 cyclists? Or do I want to remain a bike ninja, to ride where and how I please?

I gave in last night (so un-hip) and as I was approaching the pack of 250 cyclists convening around Mt Vernon convention center, I couldn’t help but feel this sense of camaraderie and pride. I’m such a sap, I didn’t even know these people… but they had wheels, and that was cool by me. I was accompanied by Rookie and Russ, because I sure as hell was not riding alone in a pack of 250. The ride was a nice and easy 9miler that looped around the Capitol, ran towards Anacostia, cross the river and ended up at Navy Yard with a welcoming spread of some down home cooking. Free food. You can’t pass on free food…EVER. AND sweet classic tunes that almost made you forget that it was chilly con carne out there. All in all, it was a beautiful ride, I ended up somewhere towards the back of the group, and all I saw was a sea of red blinking lights in front of me. I’m a group ride believer! It was a nice change of pace to the usual evening rides…and I’d do it again in a heartbeat if the opportunity arises.

Well done BicycleSpace! Cheers, and a happy riding!
